The health subcommittee of the Veterans Affairs recently heard testimony on three medical cannabis bills, all of which garnered strong support from multiple organizations. However, the VA itself has openly opposed the bills, citing the federal status of cannabis as a reason. The bills are titled: the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act of 2019 (H.R. 712), Veterans Cannabis Use for Safe Healing Act (H.R. 2191) and the Veterans for Equal Access Act (H.R. 1647). U.K. company Oxford Cannabinoid Technologies is trying to raise $50 million to study different combinations of cannabinoids for the treatment of various conditions including pain, inflammation, neurological disorders, and cancer. The company is backed by Snoop Dogg’s venture firm, Casa Verde, and Star Trek actor Patrick Stewart just to name a couple. A Pennsylvania woman failed a drug test after using Koi CBD vape juice that she purchased at a local mall, and now, she is taking legal action against the company. The plaintiff, Bianca Thurston who was using CBD products to manage pain, was fired from her job of 1 year after testing positive for “cannabinoids”.
