Skin problems such as eczema and acne can heavily impact personal confidence often leading to unnecessary reclusiveness. New research suggests CBD may help in the fight against these debilitating skin conditions.
Integumen, an Irish based lab that tests skin products, announced a 99% reduction of bacteria on the skin following the application of CBD lotion. The bacteria in question is known to be a leading cause of foreign body infection with resistance to some antibiotics.
These promising preliminary results, posted this year, saw Integumen stock price soar more than 40% on the London stock exchange. But it is not just Integumen who are showcasing CBD potential in treating skin conditions.
In another retrospective study from the University of Modena Italy, 20 patients who had either psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, or resulting scars applied CBD-enriched ointment twice daily for three months resulting in significantly improved skin parameters and symptoms, without any allergic reactions.
Acne, the bane of many a teenagers life, is the most common human skin condition and this affliction is mainly as a result of increased sebum excretion and inflammation. Researchers in the University of Debrecen, Hungary, showed that CBD exerted complex anti-acne effects by suppressing sebocyte proliferation (which reduced the excretion of sebum) and reduced inflammation.
CBD along with other cannabinoids present in full-spectrum CBD also showed great promise in relieving dry skin. In fact, CBD carried in hemp seed oil has even greater potential for success given hemp oil contains natural omega 3 and 6 oils, essential for strong, healthy, hydrated skin.
CBD’s unrelenting rise in popularity around the world has seen huge growth in CBD-infused topicals, creams and balms following the publication of encouraging research.
The CBD-infused topical market is estimated to be worth €570 million this year and is set to grow by 33% year on year according to Future Market Insights.
The report shows that major brands such as Kiehls, Josie Maran Cosmetics, Lord Jones and many others have started to infuse CBD into their skincare range, driven by consumer demand for a product that is suitable for all skin types.
Our skin can often reveal our true state of mind. Consider a face blushing, inadvertently revealing secrets of the mind, or the appearance of goosebumps when something is wrong, or your skin crawling when in a state of fear.
Fear, anxiety and stress are often common factors in a breakout on our skin and CBD have been shown in numerous studies to have anti-anxiety effects, thereby calming you down and in turn reducing the breakout.
CBD has the potential to be a real game-changer in the skincare and cosmetics industry and there are an increasing number of companies stepping up to bring quality products to the market. Laure Bouguen, founder of French brand Ho Karan sums up CBD potential in skincare when she says:
“It can replace a lot of synthetic and less powerful molecules and reshape the beauty industry into a wellness industry with a beauty-in and beauty-out approach”
There has been a plethora of research showing CBD interaction with our bodies endocannabinoid system by influencing receptors, therefore, contributing to overall health. CBD’s presence in skincare products not only boosts skin but overall health, offering us a chance to not only look good on the outside but feel good on the inside too.
