Tamra Netzei, an-ex teacher from Alexandria, Virginia, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis five years ago – a diagnosis which changed the course of her life forever. Now, she’s advocating for legal change in her hometown, to allow people to take medical cannabis, after she had so much success with it.
Speaking about her job as a teacher, Netzei said, “My legs might go, I can still teach in a wheelchair. I have a cane some days; I have a wheelchair some days. That’s fine!”
Last year, doctors told Netzei that the prescription meds she was taking for her condition were causing damage to her liver, so much so that it was on the verge of failing. With that revelation, she went and got hold of some Cannabis Oil from a friend, which she took that same night.
Netzie explained that because she takes CBD Oil, she avoids any psychoactive effects from the medicine, as CBD as a compound extract contains no THC – the compound responsible for the ‘high,’ “It’s amazing. It worked like nothing else did, but I couldn’t deal with the fact that I would have to break the law to be able to feel well,” she said.
Back in 2017, Governor McAuliffe signed new legislation permitting patients with severe epilepsy only to access medical cannabis. New proposed legislation, namely SB 726 and HB 1251, would allow Virginia doctors the option to prescribe Cannabis oil to patients for any condition.
Senator Siobhan Dunnavant who is also a doctor told reporters that physicians should decide who get medical cannabis and not lawmakers, “In some of these chronic illnesses and cancer treatment, we use poison to help people. We don’t need to be coming back to the legislature every year for legislators who are not subject matter experts to be reviewing what the latest data is and deciding if there is a medical indication. That’s something that needs to sit with doctors,” Dunnavant said.
In conclusion, Netzei summed up her situation, and the situation for some many people in situations similar to hers, “Cannabis is bad. I believed that myth until it really matter to me,” she said.

There are many myths surrounding recreational highs. However, there are probably just as many truths. One person’s individual experience can soon spread and become gospel – drug scripture that everyone abides by. This is useful if the original case is based on fact, but very problematic if it’s not. Take the war on drugs, for […]
