Jeremy Corbyn’s son to unveil UK’s first “all hemp” shop

August 19, 2019

If you’ve ever wished for a one-stop-shop for all your hemp needs, the son of Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn is about to answer your prayers. Tommy Corbyn, 26, is set to open up the UK’s best hemp oil shop, with business partner and girlfriend Chloe Kerslake-Smith, 24. ‘The National Hemp Service' is set to open in September on Stroud Green Road in Islington, North London.

However, plans to open the shop had been in the making for quite some time, with the Daily Mail outing the couple's intentions to open a hemp shop in September 2018.

Corbyn and Kerslake have expressed desires to teach customers about the sustainability benefits of hemp, and plan to sell a wide range of hemp-derived foods, from CBD oil and hemp seed to clothing, CBD lube for better sexual climaxes  and CBD edibles. “We are trying to show everyone all the things hemp can do,” said Kerslake, in conversation with the Islington Gazette.

Because it's sustainable, incredible for the earth and climate and should be decriminalised.”

As well as helping to combat climate change by offering a more sustainable solution for shoppers, Corbyn extolled the virtues of hemp to help offset any possible economic damage from Brexit.

Hemp a potential solution post-Brexit

“Hemp offers a huge amount of solutions to the problems of today, in terms of agriculture, environment, even economically, if we all start growing hemp it would help. Especially in the Brexit environment when we are not going to be able to export much to the European Union, hemp is part of the solution.”

Thankfully, the Labour leader’s son isn’t about to get in trouble with his dad for venturing into the cannabis business any time soon. Throughout his political career, Jeremy Corbyn has supported the liberalisation of strict drug laws in the UK when it comes to the treatment of cannabis and cannabis derivatives.

He has been quoted as saying that criminalising people for possessing small amounts of cannabis is “not a particularly good idea”.

In 2000, Corbyn also co-sponsored a bill to decriminalise cannabis along with 13 other Labour MPs, stating “That this House recognises that the cannabis battle in the war against drugs is being lost; that cannabis is neither more damaging than tobacco, nor more addictive than alcohol, and that it is no more the portal to harder drugs than a half of bitter to rampant alcoholism…”. Kerslake has also stated that he is aware of and supports the couples’ new business venture.
