How Does CBD Compare With Other Natural Arthritis Remedies?

February 15, 2019

Arthritis is a painful condition that can severely impact one’s quality of life. To complicate matters, the pain medications which are typically prescribed to treat arthritis often cause unwanted side effects, which has led many patients to turn to natural remedies like CBD in search of safer — but equally effective — alternatives.

For many years, people have claimed that cannabis had the power to relieve chronic pain (like the kind experienced by people with arthritis) even before it was legal to use it for medical purposes. Now, researchers believe that they have uncovered the ways in which CBD oil, one of the primary derivatives of cannabis, can reduce pain in people suffering from different types of arthritis. Studies show that CBD can reduce pain caused by nerve damage (in rats) by triggering receptors in the body which control pain regulation.

This may sound familiar to those who have tried acupuncture, another common natural remedy for joint pain caused by arthritis. Proponents of this ancient Chinese medicine, which involves the use of tiny needles inserted into strategic points throughout the body, claim that it reduces pain by releasing pent-up energy flows, though scientists have mixed opinions about its efficacy.

Other common home remedies for arthritis symptoms include cold treatments, consuming certain herbal supplements, or exercising more. Studies have found that exercise is crucial for people living with the condition as it helps them to build much-needed strength and flexibility, leading to reduced inflammation. The tricky thing about this is that arthritis can seriously limit mobility, so patients may find it difficult to work out, although there are many arthritis-friendly workouts designed for people with reduced mobility.

CBD vs. Other Natural Remedies?

People living with arthritis often find themselves more than a little lost when it comes to their treatment options. Traditional medications can be problematic and even ineffectual, so lots of folks are turning to more natural treatment options. Unfortunately, most of these haven’t been sufficiently studied to make verifiable claims about their efficacy. This makes it quite difficult to accurately compare and contrast the various options.

However, there is a growing body of researchthat indicates CBD could be an effective treatment for arthritis pain relief, one that will likely continue to be bolstered as researchers gain a better understanding of CBD’s potential for specific forms of arthritis, like rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. In the meantime, there’s no shortage of evidence to suggest that high-quality CBD could help to relieve pain and improve the quality of life for people living with arthritis today.
