If comments this week by England rugby lock George Kruis are anything to go by, CBD is set to be a popular treatment choice, in coping with the gruelling demands of the Rugby World Cup in Japan. Kruis, who runs his own CBD oil business, told the Daily Star, “There are four or five people in every club who are taking it,” with reference to the English Premiership Rugby competition, adding that other sportsmen and women, including Premier League footballers and Team GB Olympians, are switching from traditional treatments to CBD in their droves.
The Saracens star said, “We use CBD as part of the daily routine in our rugby careers. It helps us maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout the highs and lows of professional sport. It puts me in a calm state.”
Since the World Anti-Doping Agency removed it from its banned substances list, athletes in full-contact sports have been free to use the natural substance which is especially suited to the demands of rugby.
Kruis said the cannabis extract with 0% THC – which does not get you high – is expected to be used widely at this year’s tournament in Japan. With games coming thick and fast, it is to be expected that players will be keen to maintain performance levels despite the torrid demands involved, and CBD is a welcome addition to the players’ treatment options.
