In today’s class, we will cover why using CBD cannot, and will not get you high. We’ll also cover some of the effects of CBD, and talk about CBD oil use vs smoking CBD.

School is in session.

Will Using CBD Get Me High?

No. Using CBD will not get you high.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of many different cannabinoids within the cannabis plant species. CBD, by itself, does not have the ability to make people high.

Many people assume CBD makes you high because it comes from cannabis. They are most likely confusing it with THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is highly intoxicating when used, but CBD just isn’t.

A lot of this is due to how CBD interacts with our bodies.

CBD and the Endocannabinoid System

The reason THC can cause a high in people is because of how it binds to what is known as cannabinoid receptors. THC has a very strong binding affinity, while CBD does not.

These receptors are all over our bodies and makeup what’s called the endocannabinoid system.

Location of cannabinoid receptors

As you can see in the image above, these receptors are everywhere. There are two different receptors that we know of at this time:

  • CB 1 receptor
  • CB 2 receptor

Both receptors do different things when cannabinoids interact with them. Some of these interactions result in things like inflammation relief, pain relief, and even better sleep.

THC vs CBD Oil

In order to better understand why CBD won’t affect your head like THC, we need to establish the difference between the two.

As we said earlier, the fact that CBD won’t get you high might be disappointing (or impractical) to some people.

But for many others, CBD’s inability to get people high is exactly what many patients are looking for.

Many people take issue with THC because it can have some nasty side effects.

Dizziness, headaches, anxiety and paranoia are often reported by users.

THCA vs THC: What’s the Big Difference?

This makes any potential benefits difficult for certain people to experience.

Since CBD doesn’t act like THC, you don’t have to worry about the aforementioned side effects.

But CBD isn’t just non-intoxicating, it’s also an antagonist to its counterpart, THC.

This is due to a theory known as the “entourage effect,” where the different compounds within marijuana work together and balance each other out.

CBD plays a key role here. In the words of Doctors Malik Burnett (MD) and Amanda Reiman (Ph.D.), “In addition to helping maximize the benefits of the plant, the entourage effect plays a role in helping to minimize the side effects of various cannabinoids.

The most fitting example of this is CBD’s ability to modulate the potentially negative side effects of THC.”

In other words, using a strain that contains enough CBD will help keep the THC in check, in addition to providing relaxing effects.

While some people do focus exclusively on CBD and avoid THC like the plague, strains containing both are the best choice for people who want a balanced effect.

As a system of checks and balances, CBD keeps the effects of THC from becoming too strong.

What Does CBD Feel Like?

When people use CBD, they do not report any psychoactive or euphoric effects. It really shouldn’t make you feel anything in particular, except for helping dull pain, reduce anxiety or a number of other benefits.

Many medical institutions love cannabidiol for this reason. In the medical field, doctors prefer using medications that do not offer any psychoactive effects, because the potential for abuse decreases dramatically.

The only thing you will notice is that for a period of time, the CBD will possibly aid you in certain areas of health benefits.

What Does Smoking CBD Feel Like?

Smoking CBD should not feel like anything, either.

If you smoke a real CBD product, and you feel like you might be high, this is because the product is improperly labeled.

You can avoid getting mislabeled or fake CBD items by looking for QR codes on the packaging or CBD product label. These QR codes will link to a third-party lab test that shows the exact content in that CBD item.

The FDA did a study on CBD labels in 2020. They found out that about 20% of the products they tested either had no CBD, or very little CBD in them when compared to the label.

Be careful, and only purchase from the most trusted CBD brands in the industry.

CBD School can help you in this field. We’ve reviewed most of the brands in the industry. You should read the reviews and pick a brand that we back.

Does CBD Oil Get You High?

No, you will not get high from using CBD oil, or any hemp-derived CBD product.

This is because there is little to no THC in these items. In order to pass federal law, CBD products must contain less than 0.3% THC content.

This amount of CBD is nowhere near enough to get you high.

LED-ing the Way to Sustainable Farming by Patricia Miller

Growing anything sustainably is a challenge. Outdoor farms are more energy-efficient but susceptible to climate instability, theft, and pests. Indoor and greenhouse facilities use more power but produce consistent yields year-round. Cannabis cultivators tend to prefer indoor farming. It’s easier to control the environment and create a visually appealing product. From a sustainability perspective, the […]
