CBD topicals have taken the pain and inflammation world by storm.
Whether used for inflammation associated with arthritis, to soothe sore muscles after a workout, bring relief to lower back pain, or ease that pain in the neck, CBD topicals provide localized relief wherever they’re applied.
cbdMD, one of the most trusted names in the CBD sector, understands just how important CBD topicals truly are.
They know that while other CBD products such as tinctures are awesome for easing anxiety and promoting relaxation, some people need localized relief for troublesome physical pain.
We recently had the opportunity to test out a couple of the topicals cbdMD offers and can’t wait to share with you our honest opinion of what we thought.
Before we do so, however, let’s take a quick look at what CBD topicals are and how they so well to provide localized relief to sore areas on the body.
Basically, CBD topicals are lotions, creams, and balms that are infused with CBD.
They are applied topically to the skin to areas where pain and/or inflammation is evident.
CBD topicals are much like other topical analgesics in that they are applied directly to the affected area to provide localized pain relief.
Anyone who’s familiar with the dull aching or burning sensation of arthritis pain knows that rubbing a soothing topical cream can help
The skin is the largest organ of the body and is extremely complex. It’s got an extremely active structure that influences homeostasis and is the first line of defense against injury and infection.
We’ve talked before about the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and the role CBD plays to provide homeostasis to the body and mind (click here for a refresher or to learn more).
Were you aware that the skin contains its very own ECS, as well?
When applied topically, CBD helps to introduce the cannabinoid to the skin’s ECS as the topical application penetrates into the skin and directly into the ECS.
Not only can this bring overall homeostasis to skin health in general but can also help benefits the skin itself with the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties it contains.
When it comes to pain management, topical application of CBD can offer serious relief.
When CBD is applied to the skin, it can penetrate as far as one inch into the skin itself. When it works its way into these deep layers, it has shown to provide relief from arthritis and physical pain.
Research shows that “in the skin, cannabinoid lipids, whether of endogenous or exogenous origin, are capable of regulating numerous sensory, homeostatic, and inflammatory events.”
Basically this means that whether taken internally or applied externally, CBD helps relieve the sensation of pain and inflammation.
This is something cbdMD understands. That’s exactly why they offer three different options when it comes to CBD topical relief.
Let’s take a deeper look.
cbdMD has been on the CBD scene for a while now…and built quite a solid reputation for themselves. Not only are their products some of the most popular around, but all of their broad spectrum CBD products are third party tested for quality and made from hemp grown organically in the US.
cbdMD has an extensive line of CBD products and carries three options when it comes to CBD topicals: CBD Freeze, Inflammation Formula, and Moisturizing Lotion.
Here we’ll take a closer look at each one.
If you’re prone to getting a regular workout on, you know just how welcoming a cooling topical can be to sore muscles. cbdMD’s CBD Freeze is specially formulated professional and amateur athletes alike.
This cooling topical formula contains a proprietary blend of ingredients specifically made for easing joint pain and stiff and sore muscles. Available in both roll-on and squeeze tube options, this non-greasy formula goes to work fast to provide relief where you need it the most.
cbdMD CBD Freeze is available in three different strengths including:
cbdMD CBD Freeze ingredients: Menthol USP Natural 4%, Aloe Vera Extract, Arnica Montana Extract, CBD, Carbomer, FD&C Blue 1, FD&C Yellow 10, Ilex, Paraguanensis Leaf Extract, Isopropyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Tea Tree Oil, Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E), Triethanolamine, Water.
We tried the roll-on formula in 1500mg. It went to work fast, and the cool came on quickly. We applied it on sore calves the day after taking a longer run on the beach than usual and noticed that the pain we felt seemed to melt away after about 10 minutes as the cold therapy pain cream went to work.
Don’t like the cooling sensation associated with cold therapy? Looking for a topical CBD product without added artificial colors? Not to worry. cbdMD has you covered with two more topicals to choose from.
According to their website, cbdMD’s Inflammation Formula was created with one goal in mind. Recovery.
This topical is specifically formulated to target inflammation caused by muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. And while we won’t list every ingredient in this proprietary blend, there are specific ingredients added to it that are known to help tremendously when it comes to specifically alleviating inflammation.
Some of these include organic arnica flower extract to stimulate white cells, sweet basil leaf oil to relieve joint pain and muscle aches, vitamin B6 to help repair arthritic and inflammatory damage, black pepper oil to relieve muscle injuries and tendonitis, eucalyptus leaf oil to relieve pain associated with arthritis, MSM to increase flexibility and absorption within cellular walls, Roman chamomile flower oil for arthritic pain, and more.
cbdMD Inflammation Formula is available in three different strengths including:
It is available in both a tub and a squeeze tube.
Personally, we loved it. For one, we prefer a non-cooling topical. For another, cbdMD Inflammation Cream rubbed on smoothly and wasn’t at all thick or greasy. We tried both the 750mg and 1500mg on separate occasions, rubbing it into our shoulders where we seem to carry the most tension.
How did it work?
Honestly, like a dream. Within 5-10 minutes we found that the pain we’ve become accustomed to practically vanished completely.
Would we recommend it to others?
In a heartbeat.
CBD is said to be great for the skin, which is exactly why cbdMD created their Moisturizing Lotion. cbdMD invites you to “revitalize your skin” with their specially formulated lotion that contains CBD, coconut oil, aloe vera, and essential oils that will leave your skin “feeling babies-bottom soft.”
cbdMD Moisturizing Lotion is available in three different strengths including:
Unfortunately, this was one of cbdMD’s topicals that we didn’t get to try. Reviews on their website, however, are five-stars across the board. One reviewer said, “Sometime I’m skeptical when buying new lotions but I wanted to see what all the buzz was about with CBD. Let’s just say I’m hooked! The Revive lotion is super lightweight with no weird greasy residue, EW.”
Looking for a CBD lotion that rubs on smooth and keeps skin balanced and moisturized? You might just want to check out what cbdMD has to offer.
Once again, cbdMD has proven that they’re one of the best CBD companies there is. With a commitment to quality and third party test results available for all their products, you know you’re getting the real deal.
Topicals are an excellent way to get localized pain relief, whether you’re one to regularly workout, suffer from arthritis symptoms, or experience muscle, joint, or tendon pain for any number of reasons.
We’ll definitely continue to use it in our own personal lives and recommend it to anyone looking for a CBD topical that actually does what it’s intended to do.
