For now, Sarah Blyth and her brave colleagues have opened an addiction tent in Vancouver, thought to be the epicenter of the opioid addiction crisis in Canada. And there they are offering free cannabis and CBD to anyone who is addicted to opioids. This gives a whole new meaning to the word absurd, as anyone can obtain dangerous, addictive opioids from their family doctor, while natural cannabis products are still basically illegal.
The Downtown Eastside Street Market in Vancouver is a great idea, and will most likely pave the way for other similar initiatives in the future. The tent tries to help people who have overdosed, often using a good amount of naloxone in such a case. However, cannabis is an obvious alternative, as it also helps people to wean off their prescription meds.
Blyth spoke to reporters about the overdose tent, “We’re doing some case studies on what people think of how people are using it so we’re taking some data and working with students to learn what people are using, what they’re using and how they’re using it.” She added that most folks in Vancouver have been totally supportive of the tent, and that also included the police, even though cannabis is technically illegal.
‘There’s been a lot of dispensaries that have opened the city hasn’t been cracking them down,” Blyth said, “They’re just doing what they’re doing. They’re pretty supportive, supportive as they can be, seeing as it’s illegal.”
She also spoke about how devastating the opioid crisis is in Vancouver, “We can get 700 people a day at the tent,” Blyth says. “A lot of the time, we spend all day reversing overdoses. This is just a way to give people another option, and it’s working.”[Image credit: Flickr]

Will we get up to 25 legal states by the end of elections? 2022 elections are going to be […]

There are many myths surrounding recreational highs. However, there are probably just as many truths. One person’s individual experience can soon spread and become gospel – drug scripture that everyone abides by. This is useful if the original case is based on fact, but very problematic if it’s not. Take the war on drugs, for […]
