A Career In Cannabis Could Earn You $250,000 A Year

November 22, 2017

While dealers have grown cannabis on the black market for years, dodging the law as best they can, with cannabis legalization sweeping North America and Europe, there are some highly lucrative new cannabis careers on the horizon…

However, it’s not in the growing fields where the lion’s share of the cash is made these days, in fact, it all starts in the classroom. Just ask James Yagielo from HempStaff, a cannabis headhunting company based in Florida, specializing in recruiting and training staff for the cannabis industry. They also recruit and train master extractors, who hone their skills of extracting the very best quality cannabis compounds from plant to final product, and apparently it’s an art.

While the master extractor’s job is to make the best shatter and concentrated cannabis oils, it is no mean feat, and takes many years of practice and experience. Straight off the bat, a master extractor needs a PhD in biochemistry, but also degrees in science as well as engineering. And that’s before any practical extraction is done.

Perhaps after learning that, you won’t be so shocked that these extractors earn in excess of $250,,000 annually. The only other people to earn that kind of money in the cannabis industry are lab directors, who also need a bunch of degrees just to get the job.

The statistics, in this case from New Frontier Data, speak for themselves, noting that the cannabis industry will soon employ more than 300,000 people, and that’t in North America alone.

It’s not all plain sailing though, as Bloomberg reports that  only 2 out of 10 cannabis startups actually make the grade, with the other 8 out of 10 failing miserably. Any which way you cut it, making a six-figure salary in the cannabis industry is tough, unless you are doing it tax free on the black market, which is ill-advised.

However, who knows? Maybe you have what it takes to be a master extractor, just make sure you spend at least 7 years in higher education getting those degrees first…

Cannabis policy changes in Africa are welcome. But small producers are the losers by Clemence Rusenga

Cannabis is a drug crop with a long history in Africa. Alongside coca and opium poppy, it has been subjected to international control for nearly a century. The International Opium Convention of 1925 institutionalised the international control system and extended the scope of control to cannabis. In 1961 a new international convention was adopted to […]

University of Sydney to Offer Free Cannabis Testing by Johnny Green

The University of Sydney is launching a fairly robust study in an attempt to, as the university describes it, “investigate cannabis consumption, behaviours, and attitudes among users.” Part of the study involves offering free, anonymous cannabis testing for people that cultivate their own cannabis in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Cannabis was decriminalized in 2020 in the […]
